Between December 27 and 30, the Romanian Orthodox Diocese of Canada organized, with the help of St. Mina Parish – Lorraine, a winter camp for children between 7 and 15 years old. Several volunteers joined His Grace Bishop Ioan Casian and Father Olimpiu Mărginean for the winter camp - Corina Goleac, Carmen Ognean, Cezar Vitencu, dr. Elena Mărginean, Anca Coza, Dan Zamfirescu, Elena Stefan, Stefanos Athenagoras, Amelia Actarian.
The thematic framework of the activities carried out was that of the Romanian village and its traditions. The program of the camp consisted of morning, evening prayers and Divine Liturgy, icon painting on glass, interpretation of plays on Christian themes and religious carols, photo exhibition with pictures from the life of the Romanian village, explanations on the customs of the Romanian village and on the traditional popular vestments, watching short Romanian films about traditional customs, chess championship, healthy culinary choices and decorative arrangements, winter sports activities, campfire etc.
The young people were organized into five groups with names of monasteries - Sihăstria, Cozia, Rohia, Prislop and Dervent - representing the Romanian provinces. The children had the opportunity to listen to catechesis adapted for their age on the themes - what does it mean to be Orthodox Christian, the meaning of the icon of the Nativity of the Lord and the icon of the Protecting Saints of the Diocese - Mother of God, St. Ap. Andrew and St. John Cassian etc.
Some of the children could participate in the winter camp benefitting from scholarships thanks to several generous donors.
The camp ended with the final show celebration held by the children. At the end, they received diplomas of participation, a bilingual prayer book and some representative icons for this period.
