On Saturday, June 29, 2019, on the occasion of the feast of St. Peter and Paul, His Grace Ioan Casian, the Romanian Orthodox Bishop of Canada, served the Divine Liturgy at St. George's Cathedral in Saint-Hubert, Montréal.
During the hierarchical religious service, deacon Ciprian Augustin Purcarea was ordained priest on behalf of the Saint Mina and Ephraim the New Parish in Lorraine, Quebec.
Other members of the clergy took part to the celebrations surrounding the hierarch of Canada: Rev. Fr. Olimpiu Mãrginean, diocesain - secretary, Rev. Fr. Daniel Sandu and Rev. Fr. Daniel Ungureanu. The choral group led by the protopsaltis Valentin Botu gave the responses at strana.
At the end of the service, Bishop Ioan Casian delivered a sermon speaking of the significance of the two apostles Peter and Paul and of their life as model of Christian confession.
The two apostles were models of life dedicated to the mission in the service of God. One of the essential characteristics of the Church is to be apostolic. The Church cannot depart from the apostolic character because it would depart from the knowledge of the Son of God who opened our way to salvation. To be apostolic means to speak of the truth of the saving work of Christ. The Apostolic confession of the Church is expressed in the words of St. Apostle Peter: "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God" (Matthew 16: 16). Without this confession, the Church loses the essence of its vocation.
At the end of his sermon the hierarch congratulated the new ordained priest, stressing the importance of the mission he has to accomplish. Rev. Fr. Ciprian Augustin Purcarea ended with a thankful word addressed to all those present, to the bishop and to his spiritual father Rev. Olimpiu Marginean, who “helped him, supported and modeled” in his path to this important moment: the ordination to the priesthood.
