Ontario Legislature adopted Orthodox Christian Week Act
On December 11, 2024, the Legislative Assembly of Ontario passed Bill 167, Orthodox Christian Week Act.
The Act officially declares “The seven-day period in each year starting on Orthodox Easter Sunday is proclaimed as Orthodox Christian Week.”
We rejoice and congratulate Tom Rakocevic, the sponsor of the bill, Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP), along with all the parliamentarians who supported this bill throughout the legislative process, including MPs Aris Babikian, Effie J. Triantafilopoulos, Sheref Sabawy and Minister Natalia Kusendova-Bashta.
The Romanian Orthodox Diocese of Canada welcomes this important moment, which underlines the importance of the Orthodox Christian faith in the province of Ontario and in Canada.
Members of all Christian Orthodox jurisdictions actively participate in the social, spiritual and administrative life of the province of Ontario and throughout Canada. Through the evangelical values preached and practiced in Christian Orthodox churches such as love, kindness, charity, patience, compassion, dignity, etc. Christ Jesus the Lord is made present. They are foundational values for a just and authentic society.
Congratulations to all those who were involved in the adoption of Law 167.
Merry Christmas! A blessed New Year!
