Friday, January 25, HG Bishop Ioan Casian visited the Benedictine Abbey Saint-Benoit-du-Lac. The visit took place in the context of the Prayer Week for Christian unity.
On this occasion the Romanian hierarch had the opportunity to attend the community religious services during the morning. Later, he met Dom André Laberge, the superior of the abbey, and Jacques Côté, a monk and priest in the same monastery.
In an informal setting, several things were discussed: news from the Orthodox and the Benedictine monastic world, the situation of Christian life and practice in Romania and Canada (particularly Quebec), the situation of theological education institutions in Romania after 1989, the situation of religious practice and education in Quebec and Canada, the Roman Catholic and Greek Catholic presence in Romania, the practice of ecclesiastical economy regarding the Holy Sacraments in the Orthodox Church (especially the Religious Marriage) etc.
