On October 26 and 27, 2019, St. Dimitrie the New Mission in Montreal celebrated its 10-year anniversary, in an atmosphere of warm spiritual joy.
The mission was established in 2009, at the initiative of Rev. Fr. Ion Ceaușu and a group of believers, with the blessing of H.Em. Archbishop Nicolae.
The first Divine Liturgy was celebrated on December 19, 2009, with the participation of H.G. Bishop Ioan Casian, who consecrated the first icons of the church. Since that time, the liturgical life of the community has been uninterrupted under the spiritual guidance of Fr. Ion Ceaușu - the parish priest. In 2011, a mobile iconostasis with two icon registers was built, completed the following year. Over the years, religious objects have been purchased, the cross on the table of the Holy altar, the silver vessels, the priestly vestments, the covers, the service books, etc.
In May 2018, the church was enriched with the vestment of St. Dimitrie the New, donated by the Romanian Patriarchate at the demand of H.G. Bishop Ioan Casian.
On the morning of Saturday, October 26, the church was decorated for the feast, ready to honor its protector saint on the tenth anniversary of its establishment and to receive the believers who had the joy and desire to attend this special event.
The Divine Liturgy was officiated by H.G. Bishop Ioan Casian together with seven priests and a deacon.
In the sermon delivered at the end of the Divine Liturgy, Bishop Ioan Casian stressed the importance of confessing the Orthodox faith through deed and word. Speaking about faith in Christ, the hierarch has shown that „the faith is not the result of human ideas or of philosophical speculations, but is based on the testimony of the Holy Apostles on the Crucified and Risen Jesus for our salvation, transmitting to us what they themselves saw and lived. Like them, who, after receiving the Holy Spirit, have acquired the power and courage to confess Christ, in the same way we should acquire the same humble boldness of confession through the work of the grace of the Holy Spirit, a continuous worker over generations.”
At the end of the Divine Liturgy, Fr. Ion Ceaușu expressed his gratitude to God and St. Dimitrie the New for the protection, help and grace poured into these 10 years of existence, without which nothing could have been achieved. „Today we are experiencing moments of joy and spiritual blessing that the Holy Spirit bestows upon us through the prayers of St. Dimitrie the New, the protector of our Holy Church” he said. He also thanked H.G. Ioan Casian for his presence on this great feast day for the church and for the support offered over the years, since the establishment of the mission.
Fr. Ion Ceaușu presented to the church believers an icon of St. Dimitrie the New and a diploma in deep appreciation for their steadfast and generous involvement in promoting Christian values, strengthening Orthodox faith in our church, and contributing to the preservation and spread of the Romanian culture and traditions in the community. He especially thanked the members of the Parish Council and the members of the Ladies’ Committee involved in organizing the activities of the church, as well as the collaborators and donors who have distinguished themselves over time through their contribution to the good work of the parish.
The service was followed by the anniversary agape, prepared with much love by the Ladies’ Committee, in the church's social room.
At the same time, there was a showoffered by the choir of the children of the Sunday School who interpreted the troparia of St. Dimitrie the New and other songs dedicated to him, and Mr. Cristian Chistruga recited some religious poems, his own composition. Afterwards, those present enjoyed the instrumental recital of the artists Codruț Carvațchi and Iulian Gugu.
Mrs. Mariana Pidvisischi - the chair of the Ladies’ Committee, spoke about the activities that take place in the church, both in order to preserve Romanian traditions and customs and to raise funds. Mrs. Cristina Băjenaru - the director of the Sunday School presented the activities of the Sunday School.
In the context of the launch by the Parish Council of a new project for the future - the purchase or construction of a church, Mrs. Daniela Bochiș spoke about the importance of the existence of a place of worship proper for the liturgical life of the community and about the joy of being a founder.
The feast of St. Dimitrie cel Nou continued the next day, October 27, with the Divine Liturgy, in the same atmosphere of spiritual joy.
