On Wednesday, July 17, 2019, members of the Romanian Orthodox Community of Montreal were glad to attend a spiritual encounter with His Grace Ioan Casian, the Romanian Orthodox Bishop of Canada. The conference took place at 19.30 at St. George's Cathedral in Saint Hubert, and was preceded at 18.30 by the celebration of Paraklisis to the Most Holy Mother of God. Along with His Grace Ioan Casian, Rev. Fr. Olimpiu Mărginean, parish priest of the St. Mina Parish of Lorraine, Quebec, served. The topic of the conference was: "The Family in Today's Society". The conference inaugurates a cycle of meetings which will presente important theological topics for the education and training of Orthodox Christians in the spirit of the Orthodox Church tradition.
During the conference, bishop Ioan Casian emphasized the importance of understanding the notion of family from the Orthodox theological perspective, given that in today's society, the family is increasingly understood through the trends of thinking and concepts that use other criteria in its definition than divine creation. The hierarch presented the concept of family as an icon and reflection of the love of God, of the Holy Trinity and for humanity. He pointed out that it is important for all believers to get deeper into the knowledge and experience of Christian-Orthodox spirituality without which it is not possible to preserve the condition of Christian way of living, to become living examples of confession and Christian life in the family and society.
At the end of the conference, the faithful addressed questions answered by both Bishop Ioan Casian and Rev. Fr. Olimpiu Mărginean. The evening ended in a special spiritual atmosphere, followed by a small brotherly agape.
