On the fourth Sunday of the Great Lent, HG Bishop Ioan Casian celebrated the Divine Liturgy of St. Basil the Great at the Episcopal Cathedral. Father Daniel Sandu and Father Traian Petre Constantin were beside the hierarch.
In the homily pronounced at the end of religious service, His Grace said:
We have already made a part of our pilgrimage to Jesus Christ the Risen One on Easter night. Sunday of the Cross reminded us that the true knowledge is given by the cross of Christ. Nothing can be known without the cross. We are crucified with Christ, which means the casting away our passions.
The ladder of St. John stands with the base on the cross of Christ and with the top hangs in the heavens. The cross is the image of the spiritual ascent to which man is invited during the Great Lent. Reading the Scriptures, praying longer, attending at the Divine Liturgy and the Holy Mysteries, the charitable deeds made are so many facts that bring the human person closer to God. The final goal is to encounter the risen Christ. The spiritual and ascetic effort transforms the human person and the image of this transfiguration is St. Mary from Egypt, whose Sunday follows. It is the example that shows us that no matter how sinful one is, true repentance through the grace of God can transfigure anyone's life.
At the end of the hierarch blessed those present.
