On the 32nd Sunday after the Descent of the Holy Spirit, Bishop Ioan Casian was present at the Divine Liturgy at St George's Cathedral in Saint-Hubert.
Zaheu is the living example of what faith can do - the hierarch said in the sermon. The one who was the chief tax collector, because of faith, rises above the barriers related to his smallness to meet God. God surprises him by the humble calling to come to his house. Zaheu becomes the prototype of man who, through faith, can acquire Christian discernment. Only by faith man can get rid of all the obstacles of any kind and can have a genuine view of the world, doctrines and ideologies of which he is surrounded. Only faith ultimately leads man to the encounter with God and to the radical change of his life for good. Man find again the normality of the balance in his work and in the gain he makes, and better understands what the authentic relationship with his fellows means. The man rising from the smallness due to the sinful fall of Adam, like Zaheu, reaches again the presence of God. He only is called 'son of Abraham' when he acts with mercy and justice and establishes the normality in his personal life.
Also on this Sunday, the hierarch blessed Valentin Botu as chanter of the Cathedral St. George explaining the role of various calls to ministry in the communities for edification and good order.
At the end Father Daniel Sandu thanked the hierarch and made several announcements about the liturgical and administrative life of the cathedral.
