Message of Condolences and Solidarity

With profound sadness and heartfelt sorrow, we have received the news of the tragic event that took place on Tuesday, February 10, at the school in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia, Canada, in which 8 people lost their lives, along with the perpetrator, and 25 others were injured. Our grief is even deeper knowing that this tragedy claimed, for the most part, the lives of children at the very beginning of their journey in life.

This heartbreaking event has brought immense suffering and sorrow to the local community and the bereaved families, as well as deep consternation within the Romanian Orthodox community and Canadian society as a whole. A school is a place where young people gain knowledge, build friendships, and prepare for their future. For this reason, what has occurred in the rural community of Tumbler Ridge is especially difficult to comprehend and accept.

In these moments of great trial, we unite in prayer and compassion with all the grieving families and with everyone affected by this tragedy.

We extend our sincere and deepest condolences to the families who have lost their loved ones, as well as to the entire afflicted community. We pray that the Good Lord may pour out His comfort upon the grieving hearts, grant strength to those who remain, and uphold them in faith and hope.

I call upon the clergy and faithful of the parishes and monasteries of the Romanian Orthodox Diocese of Canada, as well as the entire Romanian community in Canada, to offer prayers for those who lost their lives in this tragic incident and to stand, in thought and spirit, beside the grieving families.

May the Lord receive the souls of the departed into His light and peace, and grant consolation, support, and the strength to overcome this suffering to those who mourn. We stand with you in prayer and in full Christian solidarity.

May God grant rest to the departed and healing and strength to those who suffer.
