Sunday of the "Romanian Saints" at the Episcopal Cathedral "Saint George the Great Martyr" in Saint-Hubert, Quebec

On the Sunday of the Romanian Saints, in the presence of a large number of believers, His Grace Bishop Ioan Casian, the first Romanian Orthodox Bishop of Canada, celebrated the Divine Liturgy at the Episcopal Cathedral "Saint Great Martyr George" in Saint-Hubert, Quebec, surrounded by a group of priests.

In his sermon, the hierach spoke about the importance of the Romanian Saints and the Romanian spiritual context in the emergence, support and development of the life of holiness in our lands. The hierarch said:

“We see that if, at the Descent of the Holy Spirit, we receive, as a Church, the gift of the Holy Spirit that penetrates our human nature with the power of transfiguration, the second Sunday, of all Saints, shows us how the gifts of the Spirit spread over all mankind and help each one of us, according to our faith and zeal, to become potential saints. Romanian Saints' Sunday is a particular Sunday for our people. We see in recent years, and we rejoice in this initiative, of His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel and of the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church, to bring to light the Romanian saints. Through what we do, we recognize as the Church what these people have experienced through love, faith, and spiritual effort.  Committing themselves to the work of God, through obedience and faith in God, they received the gift of the Holy Spirit which made them holy persons.”

At the end of the event, HG Bishop Ioan Casian awarded the young winners from the Sunday school of the Cathedral presents at the Gala of the Romanian Orthodox Diocese of Canada (held at the end of May this year). At the event, the Cathedral was represented in four sections and managed to win three first prizes and one third prize. Thus, in the “Saints - my friends” section, the first place was awarded to David Efrem Popa, in the “Little protopsalt” section the young Ciprian Neagu (who follows the psaltic music courses of the protopsalt Laurențiu Truță and is also prepared by Mrs. Corina Voiculeț), in the section “Unique project” the group of young people of the Cathedral, prepared by Mrs. Anca Coza and prof. Dr. Corina Zosim, and in the section “Prayer in my life”, Rafael and Luana Purcărea received the third place. The youth received diplomas, sweets and books from the hierarch. Also awarded was Prof. Dr. Corina Zosim, the director of the youth team that won the grand prize for interpretation. The hierarch also awarded diplomas of merit to Mr. Cristian Geagiu, vice-president of the parish council, congratulating him for the intense and sustained activity carried out here and to Mrs. Prof. Anca Coza, the coordinator of the Sunday school. Thank God for everything!
